If you’re looking for a Bay City Dentist, you’ve come to the right place. Bay City Dental Center is the practice of Dr. Matthew R Ward, and we are accepting new patients. We are happy to welcome you and your family to our comfortable, relaxed and family-friendly dental practice.
As with most good dental practice, when you first visit us, we conduct a new patient assessment to find out what the condition of your teeth and general oral health is right now, what needs to be treated, and how we can best preserve and improve you and your family’s overall dental well-being. We recommend a dental treatment plan for you that cares for your oral health and well-being.
So, let’s get you booked in to find out what we can do to help keep your teeth in the best possible condition.
You can reach Bay City Dental Center by phone, email or using our online booking service. Your first appointment with Dr. Ward will be booked when it’s convenient for you, and we will use the time to discuss your dental history, and get a good idea of your dental needs. The appointment is in a comfortable room, and you can feel at ease with our caring team.
All of our intake appointments consist of the same basic parts, and these are:
#1: New Patient Exam
During your first appointment, you will be asked to complete a patient history as part of your new patient exam. We’ll ask about your general medical history, your dental history, where you previously received dental care, and when last you visited a dentist.
If you have any concerns or pain, or you want to find out more about any elective or cosmetic treatments, the new patient exam is the perfect time to discuss them with your dentist.
#2: Comprehensive Oral Exam
Next up at our Bay City Dental office is the comprehensive exam. Your doctor or dental hygienist will carefully examine your teeth and gums, take note of any existing fillings or restorative work, visually assess the condition of your teeth and gums, and make notes on work that may need to be done.
A comprehensive oral exam can only tell us so much about your teeth, gums and jaws, so the next step is a full set of x-rays. Images will be taken of all of your teeth, from several angles, so that we have a complete picture of every possible angle. These x-rays will tell us if there are is any urgent work to be done, and if there is any underlying damage that we can’t see but need to be aware of.
#4: Teeth Cleaning
The final step in your new patient appointment with Bay City Dental Center is to get your teeth into the best condition possible going forward, and that means a thorough dental cleaning. Dental cleaning is recommended twice a year for all patients, and usually forms a part of every new patient appointment.
Personalized Treatment Plans
At the end of each new patient appointment, Dr. Ward will share our recommendation for your personalized oral treatment plan.
If your teeth, gums and jaws are generally in good condition, this might simply be to schedule your next annual check up. If you need more work done to your teeth, however, we may schedule additional appointments for routine maintenance, cavity repair, restoration or other procedures.
Your dentist will discuss all of these recommendations with you, as well as providing instructions on what you can do at home to best preserve your teeth and prevent damage.
